It’s Fashion Week In Brazil. Yes, Again.
When it comes to fashion weeks, in Brazil too much is never enough—in addition to São Paulo and Rio’s offerings, there’s also Capital Fashion Week, under way this week in Brasilia, a city better known for Oscar Niemeyer’s iconic architecture. But why not? With a bullish domestic market and explosive international growth (if only the U.S. could say the same), it makes sense that this South American superpower would put on the fashion full-court press. The week highlights included exceptional regional talents such as Carla Amorim, who presented a treasure trove of gold, diamond, and semi-precious jewelry, and designer duo João e Maria, fresh out of fashion school with an ingenious, eighties-inflected collection featuring transformable pieces (pants become a shirt, etc). As for Brazil’s hectic show schedule, is this the country’s final fashion week entrant? Who knows…after all, there are still 25 other states left.
